Volunteer with us

fixer

Whether you want to volunteer during our opening hours or would prefer something more behind the scenes, we have roles that may suit you.

We’ve grouped the tasks we need doing into volunteer roles, and you are welcome to do more than one role. And everyone can share ideas on how to make the library even better. Please expand the headings below to read more about the volunteer roles we’re currently offering.

Share Bristol is for the benefit of all the community in Bristol, for everyone, and we will welcome anyone from the community volunteering with us, with the exception of those under 18 years old at this stage.

Our volunteer partnership agreement tells you how we promise to support and value you, and what we expect from you.

  • become part of Share Bristol’s volunteer management team
  • help determine our strategy, direction and activities
  • take responsibility for the overall compliance and governance of the charity in partnership with the other trustees
  • take the lead on our marketing and engagement plans and activities

For further information and details of how to apply please see our Share Bristol – Director recruitment pack – Nov 2023.

  • Helping to set up for events.
  • Helping the event to run smoothly.
  • Being available to help people out and answer their questions at events.
  • Describing what Share Bristol is and how the Library of Things works.
  • Helping to pack away and tidy-up after events.
  • Welcoming all members and visitors to the library during open hours.
  • Being part of a team looking after our library catalogue.
  • Putting new Things onto our online library catalogue, or improving the information we provide
  • Helping with Things going out of the library and being returned when we are open to the public.
  • You will need to be confident on a computer.
  • Test out donated things before they make it into the library catalogue or as they return from being borrowed. Think tents, sewing machines, power drills.
  • Make notes of your experience (think of it as a review) and also anything that doesn’t work, needs repairing, or is slightly quirky – so we can fix it or move it on to ensure we only provide things in good working order to our members.
  • If you have the experience you can fix or repair donated things that have been tested and have faults reported. Think electronics, replacing batteries, sewing.
  • Then, when in good working order, all things will need cleaning ready for their library catalogue photo shoot or their next borrow!

We’re at an exciting time in our journey, as we have just transitioned from a Community Interest Company to a Registered Charity. We’re looking for someone who has a flair for governance and an eye for detail to help keep us on the straight and narrow, making sure we are well run, meet regulatory requirements and get those annual submissions done on time!

As our Company Secretary, or governance lead if you prefer, you will provide invaluable advice and guidance to our Trustees, as we ensure our organisation is as good as it can be, and consider our strategy for the future, whilst listening to our local community, being inclusive, and responding to local demand.
